Join PCN and local expert Dr. Steven Kahn to discuss the effects of parenting differently and help you find the approach that is best for your children and that honors both parents’ wishes and beliefs at the same time.
This presentation will start from the point where two loving parents who are also in love with each other are disagreeing about how to handle parenting. When we are falling in love and deciding who to marry, there are many factors to consider but “co-parenting” doesn’t always make it to the list! Our minds aren’t there yet, our children aren’t there yet, and it is no surprise that so many of us end up parenting with a partner who sees parenting differently than we do. We will focus on the unfortunate effects of parenting differently and help you find the approach that is best for your children and that honors both parents’ wishes and beliefs at the same time.
There will also be an emphasis on gender roles and how power in the marital relationship may affect the children. Does one parent have more power than the other because they are one gender or the other? Or perhaps because one parent is at home more of the time? Can we help our spouse with parenting in a way that doesn’t add stress to the marital relationship? What are some of the pitfalls to be careful about when it comes to the mother-son relationship and the father-daughter relationship? How all this plays out in blended and single-parent families will be also be reviewed. |
