Dr. Neumark-Sztainer, a local expert and author, will examine the phenomenon of eating, weight and body image in PCN's debut forum for 2007/2008.
She is recognized as a leading authority in behavior change and nutrition. Dr. Neumark-Sztainer is a sought-after speaker and lecturer who has been cited in New York Times and USA Today and has appeared on The Montel Williams Show. She is widely published. Her most recent book is "I'm, Like, SO Fat!": Helping Your Teen Make Healthy Choices About Eating and Exercise in a Weight Obsessed World.
In her talk, Dr. Neumark-Sztainer will discuss four cornerstones for promoting a healthy body image and a healthy weight in your child. She will provide much-needed insight into how to talk (or avoid talking) about weight-related topics and how to help your child when you hear, "I'm, like, so fat!"
Dr. Neumark-Sztainer will be discussing topics such as:
- What are we up against…. and how did we get here anyway?
- How can we protect our teens when society pushes fat but promotes thin?
- What can we do when problems come up?
She will be available to answer questions about how to help your child adopt healthful eating patterns in a society that pushes too much food, and food that is often laden with calories and low on nutrients.
